Ilona Libnárné Herczeg is the treasurer and vice-president of the Hungarian Cactus Society. She has honoured by the Anisits János Dániel Award in 2015 and by the Iosif Vasile Lungu Award of the Aztekium Society, Romania in 2010. She met with Antal Libnár in 1984, who was a well-known cactus specialist at that time already. She had no cacti before 1984, only Antal Libnár introduced them to her. She got a member in the Hungarian Cactus Society in 1985, as for the suggestion of Péter Kern, the founding president of the society. In 1991, she founded her own collection after Antal Libnár moved away. Ilona Libnárné Herczeg often visits other collectors. She bought many plants from Gyula Szutorisz. Along with germinating seeds, she also propagates Echeveria and Haworthia species. In 2000, she was elected as treasurer in the Hungarian Cactus Society. She is a founding member of the Kern Péter Cactus Group, Érd. As for the suggestion of János Kajdacsi and Ferenc Budai, she is also an active member of the Hungarian Orchid Society.
