Gymnocalycium baldianum is one of the few bight-coloured flowering taxon of the genus Gymnocalycium, first described by Carlos Spegazzini in honour of Jacinto Baldi. G. baldianum is a very variable taxon where the colour of it flowers can also vary from deep purple to light red or even to white. As high mountain taxon, it can stand light, short time frost, similarly to G. anderae. Best grown on soils reach in organic material. Flowers early, even the 2–3 years old plants.
